Stage 1 - Octopus

Octopus
  1. ​Enter the water safely

  2. Full face in the water blowing bubbles for 3 seconds

  3. Travel forward for a distance of 3 metres unaided (showing correct leg action)

  4. Travel backwards for a distance of 3 metres unaided (showing correct leg action)

  5. Move from a flat floating position on the back and return to standing

  6. Move from a flat floating position on the front and return to standing

  7. Perform a start float on back for 5 seconds

  8. Push and glide in a flat position on the front from a wall

  9. Push and glide in a flat position on the back from a wall

  10. Jump into water with support from teacher or aid

  11. Exit the water safely

 

Stage 2 - Turtle

Turtle
  1. Fully submerge body under water for three seconds with teacher support

  2. Three rhythmical breaths breathing to the side

  3. Push from a wall and glide on the back – arms can be by the side or above the head

  4. Push from a wall and glide on the front with arms extended

  5. Travel with a recognised leg & arm action for 5 metres, without the use of floatation equipment

  6. Perform a star float on front for 5 seconds

  7. Perform a tuck float

  8. Fully submerge and collect objects off the floor

  9. Jump in unaided

  10. Exit the water without support

 

Stage 3 - Seal

Seal
  1. Swim 10 metres on the front with a recognisable stroke (include breathing to the side)

  2. Swim 10 metres on the back with a recognisable stroke

  3. Sink, push away from wall and maintain a streamlined position

  4. Push and glide on the front with arms extended and log roll onto the back

  5. Push and glide on the back with arms extended and log roll onto the front

  6. Swim 5 metres on the front, perform a tuck to rotate onto the back and return on the back

  7. Demonstrate a recognisable breaststroke leg kick with either a woggle or float

  8. Push and glide and swim 10 metres on the back

  9. Push and glide and swim 10 metres on the front

  10. Jump in unaided & swim to instructor 5 metres away

 

Stage 4 - Dolphin

Dolphin
  1. Swim 20 metres front crawl with correct stroke (Include breathing to the side)

  2. Swim 20 metres Backstroke with correct stroke

  3. Swim 10 metres Breaststroke with correct leg and arm action

  4. Kick 10 metres dolphin leg kick on the front and back

  5. Perform a sequence of changing shapes (minimum of three) whilst floating on the surface and demonstrate an understanding of floating

  6. Perform a surface dive to floor and collect a sinker

  7. Perform a headfirst sculling action for 5 metres in a flat position on the back

  8. Travel on back and log roll in one continuous movement onto front

  9. Push and glide and swim 10 metres, choice of stroke is optional

  10. Travel 10 metres under water

 

Stage 5 - Stingray

Stingray
  1. Swim 30 metres front crawl with correct stroke 

  2. Swim 30 metres backstroke with correct stroke

  3. Swim 20 metres breaststroke with correct stroke

  4. Swim 10 metres butterfly showing correct arm action over the water

  5. Perform a flat stationary scull on the back

  6. Perform a feet-first sculling action for 10 metres in a flat position on the back.

  7. Perform a headfirst sculling action for 10 metres in a flat position on the back.

  8. Tread water for 30 seconds.

  9. Perform a forward somersault.

  10. Perform a kneeling dive from the side showing correct entry

 

Stage 6 - Barracuda

Baracuda
  1. Swim 40 meters front crawl, including a tumble turn

  2. Swim 40 metres backstroke, including a tumble turn

  3. Swim 40 metres breaststroke, including correct turn

  4. Sink, push off on side from the wall, glide, kick and rotate into backstroke

  5. Sink, push off on side from the wall, glide, kick and rotate into front crawl

  6. Swim 10 metres wearing clothes

  7. Push and glide and swim butterfly for 20 meters showing correct timing and breathing

  8. Dive in and glide and swim front crawl to the end

  9. Push and glide and swim 25 metres, choice of stroke is optional

  10. Swim underwater for 20 metres (can use fins)

 

Stage 7 - Shark

Shark
  1. Perform 80 metre warm-up alternating front crawl /backstroke, showing correct turns

  2. Swim 80 metres front crawl

  3. Swim 80 metres backstroke

  4. Swim 100 metres alternating breaststroke and front crawl

  5. Headfirst sculling 20 metres

  6. Feet first sculling 20 metres

  7. 20 metres butterfly full stroke

  8. Racing start into 20 metres fast on each stroke

  9. Swim 100 metres in your choice of stroke

 

Stage - Bronze

  1. Track dive into water, streamline position until surface

  2. Swim 100 metres in less than three minutes using any stroke. A change of stroke may only occur at the completion of a length of the pool

  3. Tread water for two minutes with one hand behind the back

  4. Swim 10 metres, followed immediately by two surface dives into water of full reach depth, one headfirst and one feet first, bringing an object to the surface on each occasion

  5. Scull headfirst on the back for 10 metres and return by sculling 10 metres feet first. A horizontal position must be maintained throughout

  6. Section B
  7. Track dive into water, streamline position until surface into 50m on front crawl

  8. Swim 200 metres 100 metres on the front and 100 metres on the back. A change of stroke may only occur every 50 metres

 

Stage - Silver

Section A

  1.  Plunge dive into water of at least full reach depth

  2. Swim 100 metres in less than three minutes using front crawl or backstroke

  3. Tread water for two minutes with one hand behind the back

  4. Swim 10 metres, followed immediately by two surface dives into water of full reach depth, one head first and one feet first, bringing an object to the surface on each occasion

  5. Scull head first on the back for 10 metres and return by sculling 10 metres feet first. A horizontal position must be maintained throughout.

Section B

  1. Swim 400 metres: 200 metres on the front and 200 metres on the back

  2. Swim 100m IM – One length on each stroke showing correct start, turns and finishes

  3. Track start into 100m Max effort (choice of stroke)

 

Stage - Gold

Section A Complete the set

  1. Warm-up 200m front crawl to backstroke

  2. 50m butterfly with fins showing correct turns and finish,

  3. 25m butterfly without fins from dive

  4. 200m breaststroke showing correct turns and underwater phases

  5. 200m backstroke showing correct tumble turns

  6. Scull head first on the back for 10 metres, move into a tucked position and turn through 360 degrees keeping the head above water

  7. Swim 10 metres, perform a forward somersault without touching the pool bottom and continue to swim in the same direction for a further 10 metres

Section B

  1. Swim 800 metres using three of the following strokes: front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly

  2. Swim 20m underwater with flippers
